Scór na bPáistí The children from Bishop O’Brien National School participated in the quarter finals of Scór na bPáistí in Lisgoold on Sunday 7th February. They participated in the Quiz, Recitation and Novelty Act sections and they all did us very proud. The novelty act was selected to progress to the semi-finals in Lisgoold on February 27th/28th. The novelty act is called ‘Bartlemy Remembers’ and is based on in a modern day classroom looking back to the events of 1916. It was written by our local historian John Arnold. Many thanks to Marie Gubbins and John Arnold for helping to prepare the children for the novelty act. Please enjoy looking at some of the photos from the quarter finals of Scór below.

Shrove Tuesday 2016 We celebrated Pancake Tuesday/ Shrove Tuesday or Máirt na hInide in style in Bishop O’Brien National school. Pancake Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday, which is the first day of Lent. Traditionally on this day pancakes were made to use up all the flour and eggs before the fasting season of Lent began. Pancakes were made for every child and staff member and were filled with lots of yummy things like chocolate spread, maple syrup or the traditional lemon and sugar. Have a look at our pictures below. Thanks to Mrs.O'Brien Kennelly, Ms.Roche, Rebecca Kearney and Beineon O'Brien Whitmarsh who were very busy in the kitchen. Check out some of the photos below...... On Thursday the 4th of February 2016 we celebrated Grandparents' day as part of Catholic Schools Week. Following a beautiful mass in the church the grandparents made their way to the school where they were given the opportunity to spend some time with their grandchildren in their classrooms. The children sang songs, recited poetry and played tin whistle tunes for their grandparents. . A wonderful day was had by all.
