Friendship Week 2018 From the 24th to the 28th of September this year a special week, 'Friendship Week' was celebrated in our school. Lessons were delivered in each class on the theme of friendship. Again a special emphasis was placed on being an 'Upstander' . The term used in the school to encourage children to speak up if they become aware of someone being left our or being treated unfairly, Throughout the week a variety of friendship themed activities took place in all classrooms including circle time, art activities, paired reading between Junior and Senior classes, writing of friendship poems and the creation of our whole school friendship tree. Mobile Science Workshops A great day was had last Friday, the 14th of December, when the Lismore Mobile Science workshops visited our school . In Junior and Senior Infants, the children completed a range of fun science experiments, most of which were based on the chemical reactions that take place between acids and bases. Using the dye from red cabbage the children determined which liquids were acids and which were bases. Then using vinegar as their acid and baking soda as their base they inflated a plastic glove and erupted a volcano. They also had experience with static electricity using it to raise their hair and make coco pops jump. It was a very engaging workshop which was enjoyed by all. In 1st and 2nd class, the children learned about the digestive system . They found out about what happens to the food we eat in our bodies. The class had great fun making 'poo' as they explored, in a hands on activity how coco pops are broken down in the body. The end result was lots of mess and laughter as they were left with 'poo'. 3rd to 6th Class experienced some hair raising fun with static electricity, an interaction with a magic plasma ball and experience with building circuits. The children investigated how how simple circuits, series circuits and parallel circuits worked. Thank you once again to our wonderful Parents' Association for
funding the workshops. A fantastic day was had by all. Halloween Fun 2018 Below are some pictures from our Halloween dress up day on
Friday the 26th of October 2018. As always the children put a great effort into their costumes and looked fantastic. |
