On Thursday 29th September 2022, the annual St. Colman’s hurling and Loreto football blitz took place in Fermoy. Our school was superbly represented by 12 boys from 5th and 6th class, and 16 girls from 4th, 5th and 6th class. Our boys team entered the 7 a-side hurling competition and played Conna, Ballygown and Araglen in the group stages. As the boys won all of their matches, they progressed into the knock- out stages and beat Clondulane in the semi-final. It was a rematch with Araglen, who they played in the group stage for the cup final. The boys displayed great skill and after a hard- fought battle, they came out as victors. Our captains received the cup from St. Colman’s principal Mr. Lane to great cheers and applause. Our girls football team entered the 9 a-side competition and they played Ballyhooly, Presentation Fermoy, and Castlelyons. This was a very tough group, but through great determination and hard work the girls progressed to the plate competition knock-out stages. The girls played Araglen in the semi-final and this was arguably the girls best performance resulting in them progressing to a final showdown with Kilmagner. This match proved too stiff a challenge for the girls, but they should be so proud of themselves for representing Bartlemy so well. The girls received medals from Mr. Ger Murphy Loreto, to end a fantastic day for Bartlemy N.S. A special thank you to St. Colman’s Fermoy and Loreto Fermoy for a great day. A sincere thank you to all the parents who provided transport for the day and who were great supporters for the teams. Bartlemy Abú! Welcome New Junior InfantsOn Tuesday August 30th, four new Junior Infants started in our school. The Senior Infants were delighted to welcome their new friends and had great fun showing them around and getting to know them.
3rd & 4th Class Historical Tour of Bartlemy Village 3rd and 4th class enjoyed a historical walk around Bartlemy village with John Arnold on
Wednesday 14th of September. We started below TVM at the 'Path Field' where people in times past made their way from more remote townlands to Sunday mass. We made our way up through the village as John recounted stories of people and building from times past. We learned about the 'Tailor's House', the old shops, post office, pubs, 'Band House' and the Fair Field. John told us that it hosted one of the largest horse fairs in Europe and is it claimed that Napolean's horse Marengo was bought there! A big thank you to John so being so generous with his time and expertise. To read more about our field trip take a look at John's article from the Echo in the link here. Check out some photographs from our field trip below. Chess ClubChess club is back up and running here in Bartlemy N.S, led by Ms. Kennelly. Children are enjoying playing chess together in the hall on Tuesdays. It is proving to be a lovely alternative to the usual ball games for our lunch breaks. The older children have been excellent at coaching the younger children. All children from 2nd to 6th class are welcome to join at any time.
