Discover Primary Science & Maths Award 2022 We are proud to have been awarded our third Discover Primary Science and Maths Plaque of STEM. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. The programme is run by Science Foundation Ireland and the European Space Agency. It aims to increase interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) among students, teachers and members of the public. The following is the feedback from Science Foundation Ireland on our logbook of evidence: Congratulations to Bishop O'Brien NS ! You have been successful in your application for the SFI PLAQUE of STEM. Well done on a really wonderful submission. Every step has been clearly presented, the format was easy to navigate so it has been a pleasure to assess. It is obvious that there is passion and enthusiasm for STEM in the school and full credit is due to the teachers who taught and documented all the scientific learning in the school. There are so many highlights in the submission but I thought the Living Things Strand was incredible showing learners engaged in investigating eyes, teeth and digestion.....futures in medicine! It was lovely to see the learners recording temperature in the Energy & Forces Strand as recording is a valuable scientific skill. As you pointed out in the submission the visit of the engineer to the classes allowed the learners to understand the skills and dispositions needed to become an engineer. You so rightly deserve the award. Maybe next time consider applying for the BADGE. It is a higher level of award where the whole school community including pupils, teachers and parents are involved in raising STEM awareness in the school. You would be well up for this challenge. Enjoy your success and keep up the good work. A huge thank you to everyone for supporting the work of the DPSM Programme.
