Our 'Energy' Day of Action

Picture

We have had a busy start to the year monitoring our energy use and making plans for our Day of Action.

On Thursday October 25th, we held our Day of Action. We had ‘Low Energy Day’ in our school. Where possible we will avoided using things in our school which need energy e.g. lights. interactive whiteboards, photocopiers, projectors…!

On the day the SEAI (Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland) called to our school to carry out workshops and experiments with pupils from 1st - 4th class.
5th and 6th class ran their own workshop with the Junior and Senior Infants. They had lots of fun making bees with the slogan "Bee Bright, Save Light!"

We also took part in a poster and slogan competition on the theme of energy. The winners from each class will be announced after the Halloween break!

School Garden

We would like a say a huge thank you to our wonderful parents who gave their time so generously over the summer to revamp our raised beds and school garden. The area looks fantastic and the children are looking forward to putting their green fingers to good use in planting crops and flowers for the spring.

Summer Clean Up

Last June we rescheduled our National Spring Clean Day to have an End of Year Clean Up in the summer sunshine.

Thankfully, litter (we are proud to say) was thin on the ground. However, we were kept busy with brushes, dust pans and sponges to make sure the school and grounds were spick and span before the holidays!

A huge thank you to everyone who was involved!
